18755-Henderson, Danielle

Danielle R. Henderson, PhD

Assistant Dean for Equity and Inclusion

Dr. Henderson earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville. She completed both her pre-doctoral clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine. Her postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology emphasized Cardiac-Pulmonary Behavioral Medicine. In October 2018, she began her clinical-track faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Henderson works as a clinician and supervisor in a variety of clinical settings at IU School of Medicine and IU Health, including the Advanced Pain Therapies Clinic, integrated care, and the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. She is the Co-Principal Investigator for two studies supported by the Racial Justice Research Fund at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. One project aims to examine the impact of discriminatory law enforcement exposure and childhood trauma on physical and mental health and quality of life in adult Black men and women in a primary care setting. The other project aims to examine an intervention for schoolchildren following lead exposure.

Dr. Henderson is committed to diversity work. She brings this passion to her role as a member of the IU School of Medicine Psychology Internship Program’s Executive Committee, spearheading diversity efforts. Additionally, she co-chairs the Department of Psychiatry’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Indiana Psychological Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Chemen M. Neal, MD

Executive Associate Dean for Equity & Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer

Chemen Neal, MD, works closely with academic, research and clinical leaders across the school to advance DEIJ strategic priorities for students, trainees, faculty and staff. As a member of the dean’s senior executive team, Dr. Neal serves as an institutional thought leader, contributing across mission areas. Initially in her role, she will be working toward establishing metrics to help school leadership gain a greater understanding of key areas including retention and belonging, as well as focusing on the diversification of faculty. Dr. Neal is an associate clinical professor and the wellness director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Tiffinie Snowden

Director of Equity and Inclusion

Tiffinie obtained her BA at Wright State University (Dayton, OH) in Anthropology with a certificate in Cultural Diversity in Healthcare. Originally from Cleveland, OH, she moved to Memphis, TN to pursue her MA in Applied Anthropology with a medical concentration at the University of Memphis, which she completed in 2020.

Alvaro J. Tori, MD

Senior Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion

Alvaro Tori, MD, FAAP, is Associate Dean of Diversity Affairs. He practices medicine in the pediatric critical care unit at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and IU School of Medicine. He’s enthusiastic about his position in Diversity Affairs because it affords him the opportunity to increase representational diversity, inclusive working and learning environment, and cultural competency and humility training through his efforts with strategic programming at IU School of Medicine. Mentoring a diverse group of students, residents, fellows and faculty, Dr. Tori considers it a personal mission to influence the next generation of practitioners and ensure diversity among their ranks. His personal experience, as both a native of Peru and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, enables him to truly understand the meaning of diversity and the importance of its acceptance. In his free time, Dr. Tori enjoys family activities with his husband, son and daughter and loves traveling back to Peru where he can share his Peruvian heritage.
